We know that arranged marriage in Iskcon was for the most part a disaster. However, arranged marriage among Indians (with noteworthy exceptions of course) still seems to be doing OK. Certainly, an arranged marriage among ethnic Indians has a much better chance of survival than a ‘Western style’ marriage.
So it seems to me that in todays world any couple that is able to survive ‘Western style’ un-arranged marriage deserves the medals.

Good point. Any kind of marriage that lasts for life seems to be an exception to the norm in the west.
Shouldn’t marriages be about much more than survival? Arranged or otherwise, if survival is the goal of a marriage, no wonder its been defeated.
Indian arranged marriages are very good at giving the illusion that they are happy and functional.
I would say that it was the women in these arranged marriages that deserved the medals as they suffered the most.
One of the sannyasis famous for arranging countless failed marriages (he is a guru now) told me point blank that his philosophy was: ‘mismatch them so profoundly that in resulting misery of life they will have no other solace but to serve the mission’… That was after he arranged my own failed marriage by lying to me in a grand way…
Your experience with this sannyasi was very unfortunate and his behavior in my opinion borders on sadistic.
I agree with you that women are often the ones that suffer the most in these instances as they are often victims of scriptural interpretations where they are expected to submit to the demands, needs, and desires of their husbands.
I can attest to the fact that a lot of the credit for the success of marriages in India is due to the women. Though there maybe some negatives points about those arranged marriage, I was lucky to have a abuse free childhood, which is not common anymore. Or else in modern times I see a lot of the time has to be spent to remove the scars of childhood so that the person can practice bhakti or any kind of spiritual life.
Try to replace what Dhurvasa Prabhu is saying here with:
“No, these are from all the fallen gurus I survived”
