As I understand it, essentialist scheme wants to bring all mystic experiences under the umbrella of monistic mystic experience. The author of this article though lends credence to devotional experience. Still he establishes the hierarchy, similar to Sankara or Huston Smith where devotional experience is on a lower level compared to monistic experience.
